Pecan Pies and Dead Guys

I really wanted to love this book. It’s been my least favorite so far. I’d love to read more with Ellis and Verity as a couple. He was barely in this book.

I actually think this was my favorite books in this series I enjoyed it immensely. There was a lot of kooky happiness and all of the usual characters appeared in this volume along with some new ones. Some nice some not so nice. Beau appears to have lost his mind, and Virginia is losing hers watching him as she thinks spiral out of control to crazy town... Ellis is busy working a case deemed to be an accident, but that he’s sure is a homicide. All while our lovely heroine Verity takes on a rather large case all to help out her lovable gangster ghost Franky! Inspector Julien De Clercq, whom we met in the last book show up to say he needs a criminal to help him solve the last case he worked before dying. He tells Franky and Verity that they can work for him solving the murder of A Judge on the Historical Adair Property, or Franky will be imprisoned on Verity’s property. So really this punishment effects them both! The Murder has became a menacing vengeful poltergeists who rules the Adair property with an iron fist, leaving Verity and Franky in some trouble. Meanwhile in non-ghostly life Virginia invites Ellis and Verity to a barbecue with the sole purpose of having Ellis talk some sense into his brother Beau. Beau it appears has a new girlfriend who for the SHAME owns and works in a food truck!! She is also responsible for his drastic change into a bohemian southern artist... Of course Virginia believes it’s all Verity’s fault not the new girlfriends, so she charges Verity with the job of getting him back to work at the family law firm. Ellis isn’t as large a part in this book he’s there but he’s busy working his own case. A woman is found dead at the bottom of the quarry it’s deemed an accident but Ellis is sure she was killed. Working on that assumption he continues to work the case only the victim isn’t from Sugarland and the can find no links to help get the case moving so it stagnates all the way until the end. Leaving Franky and Verity in there own with the dower Inspector. Verity and Franky’s case was super interesting for me, I loved all the 1920’s splash. I loved getting to know all the ghosts at the Adair’s parties. I wasn’t a huge fan of the Beau’s weird story arc, or and Ellis’s case seemed like an after thought. I did thing the characters life stories moved in a positive direction so I can see a small window for a happy ending in there future. That makes me a little happy they had seemed to stagnate in past books or even back track. I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Who knew that the afterlife could influence the lives of so many of the people who live in this little community. The series started with Southern Spirits where Verity discovers that her fiancé is cheating on the eve of her wedding. Verity quickly finds herself out of work and penniless due to the maneuvering of her ex’s mother. All the books in this quirky series follow the adventures of Frankie, a gangster ghost; Lucy, the skunk; and Verity, our unique sleuth and problem solver. This new book in the series opens with an unresolved problem from the previous book, Murder on the Sugarland Express. Verity and Frankie must help a long dead Police Detective solve a case or else the consequences could be dire not only for Frankie but for his new love, Molly, his cadre of fellow gangster ghosts, and for Verity’s home. The previous book had seen a halt in the war between Verity and her ex fiancé’s mother but Beau is now showing signs of breaking away from his mothers influence. This leads to the mother believing that Verity is corrupting Beau. The dramatic relationship challenges that erupt based on the plot developments as the characters struggle through unexplained murder, poisoning, and police intimidation. These layers of complexity are in each and every book of this series with this book providing more depth and details to characters and community. I enjoyed this book especially the expansion of Beau. I received an ARC. I would highly recommend this book.

In this most recent installment of Angie Fox’s delightful series, protagonist Verity Long continues to walk the fine line between the here and now, and the ghostly realm she moves through with the reluctant assistance of Frankie the German. This time, however, it’s Frankie who needs Verity’s help to solve a decades old murder in order to appease an old nemesis. Frankie’s world almost brings Verity’s investigating of crimes in the ghost world and in the non-ghost world to an untimely end as she puts everything on the line to expose a long dead murderer. Life in present day Sugarland proves just as dangerous, as the characters navigate difficult relationships and impossible expectations. With her cop boyfriend by her side, Verity risks life and limb to keep all of those she loves and cares for safe from threats known and unknown. This series is the perfect blend of all of my favorites genres: mystery, supernatural, with a splash of romance, and a hint of thriller. The stories are well crafted with interesting characters, complex but enjoyable plots, beautifully designed settings, and enough detail to give the reader a strong sense of the author’s vision. The books have recognizable continuity throughout the series and each one adds nicely to development of characters and back story. Fox has really hit her stride with this book. Itwas the perfect length for curling up on a rainy Sunday and losing yourself in a great story. And as always, she’s set readers up for the next installment wrapping things up with the slightest hint of what’s to come. If you like good mysteries, fun, quirky characters, great atmospheric settings, a bit of light romance, a little suspense, and an element of the paranormal, do not miss the Southern Ghost Hunter series.

Verity and Frankie are at it again. This time solving a 90 year old murder mystery with Inspector DeClerq, who is also a ghost. Ellis is trying to solve a new murder as well. Two murder mysteries? Oh yes, bring it on!

Verity is at it again! The ghost hunter is trying to solve two murders, one in the present and one in the 1920s with her ghostly sidekick Frankie. She has three days to find a murderer at a mansion party. Using her ability to mingle with the ghosts she uncovers clues that will help her friends but also risk her life. But to make matters worse there is an unknown stalker in the present trying to kill her. Now she has to juggle both past and present to to save her life and help her friends. Another great story that I couldn’t put down!

This is Pecan Pies And Dead Guys, book 7 of the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries series, written by Angie Fox. It’s so great to be back in Sugarland again....well, for most things. Verity, Frankie and Lucy are amazing! Don’t forget her hot boyfriend Ellis Wydell! . As well as Virginia Wydell, her almost mother in law AND the mother of her now boyfriend Ellis. And, as always, a crazy group of ghosts that are always getting Verity into trouble! Ms Fox has a way of trapping you in the story right along with Verity and her posse. I would love to see lots more Southern Ghost Hunter mysteries!! Please Ms Fox?? Pretty please??

Entertaining until the end! Another great addition to The Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries. Verity and Frankie The German find themselves in the middle of another mysterious murder from the past. This time Frankie's freedom in the afterlife is on the line. Can they solve the murder from the past? Will Frankie spend the rest of his afterlife in the slammer? Will Virginia find a new way to torture Verity? There is never a dull moment!

I love the way Angie writes with all the plot twists and turns and NO distracting expletives in every sentence! I’m not a prude, but it’s so nice to read quality fiction. She includes a little fantasy and romance, a lot of suspense, a few skunk cuddles, and a page-turning ending. I think this book was the best yet. Of course, our heroine Verity was instrumental in solving a real-life mystery and murder. She and Frankie, her gangster/ghost partner also entered the ghostly past and set history right with their exploits. Verity’s cop boyfriend, Ellis even got involved in the ghostly murder investigation and helped saved the day. Beau, Ellis’s brother and Verity’s ex-fiancé, comes back with some very interesting adventures as well in this book. This isn’t a “recipe” book with all the ingredients added with a predetermined ending. There are so many twists and turns in Pecan Pies and Dead Guys that the ending was very surprising – and of course a great one.

Another great one by Angie Fox! This series just keeps getting better and better. As usual very hard to put down! Ellis and Verity are even closer, Beau apparently has a screw loose since his Sugarland Express experience, and Virginia and Verity may have come to an understanding. Verity and Frankie make a great detective team, even if Inspector De Clercq doesn't agree with their methods. Fantastic series! Can't wait for the next one!
