Description

A shaky truce. A pregnant Medusa. And a dedicated doctor who keeps legends alive.

Even during a truce, I have my hands full as a MASH surgeon to an army of warring gods—especially when Medusa herself turns up pregnant. I frankly have no idea what to expect when a Gorgon’s expecting, but I have an even bigger problem when my presumed-dead former-fiancé sneaks into my tent with enough emotional baggage to fill a tank.

He’s been fighting for the other side, which technically makes him my enemy, and now he needs me and the power I’ve kept secret for so long: I can see the dead. It’s a blessing and a curse. Literally. Because the gods will smite me in a second if they suspect.

But the other side is developing a terrible new weapon, and the only person who can stop the carnage was just murdered in a covert lab behind enemy lines. So I have no choice but to pull on my combat boots and go AWOL with my ex and a moody berserker to confront a ghost with a terrible secret.

Too bad uncovering the truth could make me enemy #1…

Warning: This book contains a Star Wars-obsessed werewolf, an adorable hellhound, demigods in peril, action, romance, and friends who put each other first—in a MASH camp where everybody knows your business.

*The core of this book was originally called Immortally Embraced, published by St. Martin’s Press in 2013. The author has rewritten it into the way she always envisioned the story to be, which means it is now a romantic comedy instead of an angsty book. Oh, and there are a lot more pet swamp lizards, too.

The opening salvos of this book take the reader right into the enjoyable humorous sarcasm that this writer demonstrates as a counterpoint to the endless war experienced by the characters. As the plot continues, thematic breaks in the story engage the reader into anticipating the next forward motion of the characters. While Petra experiences loss due to Galen leaving, the Prophecies reveal a future for Petra if certain conditions are fulfilled. The intricacies of relationships between old and new gods bring unique stumbling blocks that sometimes takes more than one character to untangle. This book provides many surprises in a race to prevent the Old Gods from destroying the human race. I loved the humor and puzzles. I received an ARC for review. I would highly recommend this book.

This second installment of Monster M*A*S*H starts off a few weeks after book 1 with a shaky truce, the MASH 3063rd has become a supernatural clinic, attending a pregnant Medusa. Petra and Galen are still together when he is called back to the action and leaves her high and dry. Devastated, she goes on with her life until she finds a note that leads her to Marc, who is supposed to be dead for the last 10 years. He's been fighting for the other side but needs her to talk to his partner at the lab where they were creating medicine, but he has his suspicions. Now, let me tell you, I'm super confused and have mixed feelings about Marc. I love Galen, but I kind of love Marc too. They're both so infuriating and noble at the same time. Petra has now history with both of them, but I still have hope for Galen. Also, I have a hate/love relationship with the action in these books because, even if Petra is in the middle of all the prophesies, she usually isn't directly involved with the fight. I love this series. I have never read the first version, but I love this one, this is 100% Angie's style, and I adore her. The humor in it, it's so natural, and I love how she mashes up the action with the mystery about the prophecies. Also, I love the sugar in it, and even if we don't have full descriptions, I still feel the passion and the love between them.

MASH lovers rejoice! Here’s another variation on the beloved series that is truly different and wonderful. This is the second in Angie Fox’s series and doesn’t disappoint. In this book, Petra, a MASH surgeon, is just trying to survive and even stop the never-ending war between the Old Gods and the New Gods. One of Petra’s lines says a lot. “It was quite a trick - trying to save the world while being sneaky about it.” If you can imagine – a pregnant Medusa who has anger and animosity USUALLY, and now she’s pregnant, yikes. This book is packed with humor, romance, and excitement. It’s also full of unusual twists and fantastic mythological characters. To make it even more interesting, demi-gods, gods and goddesses and their intrigues make for an even more refreshing read. The cliffhanger ending – eeek! – is not too bad considering we only have a month to wait for the last book in this delightful trilogy.
  • Another fun read in the Monster MASH trilogy!

Dr. Petra Robichaud is back in this second installment of author Angie Fox’s nod to ‘70s television sitcoms. As the war between the ancient gods enjoys a temporary truce, the army hospital surgeon is dealing with some battles of her own. Her new hunky soldier boyfriend breaks up with her before rejoining his regiment for a likely doomed future, just in time for a surprise reappearance of an old flame. The doctor has some inner demons to sort out, as she finds herself in yet another life or death struggle fraught with impossible choices. Circumstances send her on an emotional roller coaster, while she attempts to balance her duties as a doctor with matters of the heart. All of the interesting, quirky beings from the debut book are present to make this story equally as funny and unpredictable. I have to admit, I was pulling for Petra’s personal life to go in a different direction, but with the complications that arose in this story, the third and final installment should be an exciting, wild ride. Fox’s brand of storytelling brings these struggles to life with humor and clarity. It’s an age old story with a paranormal/fantasy twist, a genre Fox excels at. The settings are detailed, the plot is well developed, and characters beautifully fleshed out. If you’ve read any of this author’s previous work, you’ll immediately recognize her writing style, yet this book stands on its own quite nicely. If you enjoy a bit of mystery, some fun fantasy, a little lighthearted paranormal bent, a smidge of romance, with a sprinkle of adventure, throw in some colorful backdrops, a strong, smart female protagonist, complex but endearing characters, and storyline intricate enough to be interesting, but not so complex it’s hard to keep up with, then The Transylvania Twist is a book for you. A highly recommended relaxing read and perfect escape.

I originally read this this back in December 2015 when it was released as Immortally Embraced. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to find out how the series ends, since I never finished it when it originally came out. Life got in the way. I was not sure how I felt about Marc reappearing right after Galen left Petra to go back to war, but it definitely works. All of the quirky characters are back and some surprises too. All in all a great read. You don't have to have read the first book to enjoy this one, but it will make it that much better. Highly recommended author!

This is The Transylvania Twist, book 2 of The Monster Mash series written by Angie Fox. Petra is still working as a surgeon in the crazy Mash unit when her past comes walking right in. Her long dead fiancé is apparently not...and he still seems to be interested in her. We have a brand new crisis for Petra to focus on and continue to risk her life for all involved. More crazy characters are introduced as we continue to go down the wormhole. I can’t wait to see what’s coming next!
