While part of the FBI Off the Grid series, this can be read as a stand alone book. Love the series. Each book includes members of the FBI that trained together at Quantico and are all very good at what they do. When Flynn finally convinces Andi to move back to California to fill the need of an agent specializing in child kidnappings, she had hoped to avoid two people from her past - her father, but more importantly her childhood best friend. Andi and Cooper were friends since age 8, and both loved to solve mysteries. When a neighbor’s child is kidnapped, Andi gives information to the FBI agent in charge that seems to point blame on her best friend’s brother. The kidnapping had a tremendous impact that steered them in their career choices - her an FBI agent that specializes in child kidnapping, and him a psychologist that works to show how law enforcement blames wrong individuals.
Fast forward 18 years, and on Andi’s first day in the new office she is called in to lead the case of a high profile baby abduction. Upon arrival at the home of Neil and Claire she sees her former best friend, and it is demanded by the parents that Cooper must be involved in the search with the FBI. The kidnapping of baby Elisa forces the two former best friends to reevaluate their past as they race to find Elisa. Lots of twists and turns as they evade multiple attempts on their lives. Loved trying to figure out who the kidnappers were, and there was still surprises at the end. Definitely a must read.

Suspense, mystery & swoony romance!

I adored this Romantic Suspense story!!
The suspense had me on the edge of my seat, the mystery kept me guessing till the end, the romance was swoony and a bit slow burn and there was excitement and danger at every twist and turn and there were plenty of TWISTS!!
“He smiled. "You told me earlier today that I move too slow. Let's speed things up. You like speed. You like danger. You like to feel like you're living on the edge."
"You know exactly how to play me, Cooper."
There was a blend of a cold case and the first 48 hours of a new case that had so many common denominators but nothing seemed to be adding up.
Andi and Cooper have history. They were best childhood friends until they became enemies and now they are working closely together in a race to find a missing child.
“Sometimes, she could still see the boy in him that she'd loved beyond belief. Other times, she could only see the man he'd become, but she was starting to like that man, too.”
Fatal Betrayal is the 12th stand-alone in the Off the Grid: FBI Series. It’s the first book I’ve read by this author and I love, love, Loved it!! I’m definitely going back for more!!

This review is of Fatal Betrayal, Barbara Freethy’s twelfth book in the Off the Grid series.
I received an ARC copy and this review is my honest opinion.
Even though this book is part of a series, you don’t need to read the other books in the series to understand this one. You will know who some of the characters are, but it doesn’t interfere with this store.
I think this is my favorite book of the series so far! Strong female lead, twists and turns that you won’t see coming, gun fights, and lots of action. But this book isn’t just one about a kidnapping. It is also a story of knowing when you need to speak up against injustice and being true to yourself. And learning that hate doesn’t solve any problems, but makes them worse. And holding onto that hate only diminishes you.
I really hope you give this book a chance, enjoy it as much as I did, and then go back and read the rest of the books in the series.
Riveting Story!

Newest and one of the best, my new favorite. Barbara Freethy just keeps getting better and better with each new book in this series. Andi and Cooper run afoul while solving the mystery that drove them apart as children. Lots of action, bad guys and questions abound, while facing each of their respective trust issues. Exciting, excellent read. Do not miss this one.
Fantastic!

Once again Barbara Freethy has shared her craft of romantic suspense with her readers. Fatal Betrayal is a thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. The tension of the characters seeped right into my veins as I traveled with them on the journey to the resolution of the crime happening now and eighteen years ago. Andi and Conner shared everything as children until a neighborhood tragedy impacted their friendship. Then Andi moves away. She returns as an adult as an FBI agent and once again is thrown into close proximity to Conner on a case similar to the one haunting them. Being forced to work together yields unexpected results. No spoilers here but you will want to read this 5 star romance in Barbara Freethy’s Off the Grid series.
Love this Incredible Second Chance Romantic Thriller

Barbara Freethy has done it again! I absolutely loved Fatal Betrayal by Barbara Freethy, the twelfth book in her Off the Grid: FBI series. Barbara Freethy has once again delivered an incredible romantic thriller with Fatal Betrayal. Each book in Barbara Freethy's Off the Grid: FBI series continues to get better and better. I have loved all the books in the series, but I think that Fatal Betrayal is my favorite. Barbara Freethy has once again provided her readers with amazing characters; I love all the characters in Fatal Betrayal! Who does not love hot, sexy men and strong, passionate women? I love how Barbara Freethy somehow manages to find the "perfect" heroine, who is a strong woman on her own, to balance out the career focused FBI agent. Fatal Betrayal is filled with heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. I love the lighter moments where I find myself smiling and laughing out loud. My favorite moments are the ones that pull at my heartstrings that cause me to sigh, as I read the heartbreaking moments. Fatal Betrayal is filled with such moments, and with so much emotion. It is filled with all those things that we have come to love and expect in a Barbara Freethy romantic suspense love story, especially the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner. Barbara Freethy continues to deliver all that and so much more. Fatal Betrayal had me guessing throughout the story as to who was behind the thrilling events that took place in this story. The identity of who was behind the kidnappings was truly a surprise when it was revealed. It was impossible to put it down. I loved every moment on every page. I really enjoy how the book is told from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. Barbara Freethy has once again proven that she is a master storyteller. Fatal Betrayal is the story of former childhood best friends Cooper Bradford, forensic psychologist and an expert on criminal behavior and Andi Hart, FBI Special Agent. Cooper and Andi lived across the street from one another as children. From the time they were between eight and fourteen, they were inseparable. Until one fateful night when a toddler in their neighborhood, Hannah Montgomery is kidnapping from her home. Andi informs the investigators that she saw, Cooper’s brother, Kyle’s car leaving the neighborhood around the time of the kidnapping. Andi’s admission destroyed their friendship and Andi and Cooper have not seen each other in eighteen years. Andi recently returned to Los Angeles to join Flynn Mac Kenzie’s FBI task force as the kidnapping specialist following Bree Adams’s extended maternity leave. Flynn’s task force has been assigned a kidnapping case from the L.A. office of movie producer Neil Benedict’s six-month old, Elisa, who was kidnapped from her bed earlier that morning. On the way to the Benedict home, Andi discovers that Cooper is working with Neil on a docuseries on falsely accused and incarcerated individuals. Shortly after Flynn and Andi arrive at the Benedict’s home, Cooper shows up and Neil wants him involved in the case. Cooper is a bitter enemy of Andi and lets her know how he really feels about her and what happened to his brother because of her actions. As they are investigating Elisa’s kidnapping several multiple attempts are made on Andi and Cooper’s lives. They are not sure who they can trust and decide to go off the grid. Together they work together to discover who is behind the Elisa’s kidnapping, the attempts on their lives, and if there is a connection between Elisa’s kidnapping and Hannah Cunningham’s kidnapping eighteen years ago. Cooper finally decides to trust Andi enough to share everything with her. I love the secrets that Andi and Cooper share with each other, especially regarding the fallout from Hannah’s kidnapping, the impact on the Bradshaw family, Cooper’s teenage feelings toward Andi and Andi’s home life and her relationship with her father. As they continue to spend time together, things change between them. I loved how the relationship between Cooper and Andi changes them, from mistrust and that they are both willing to take a chance at love. I love the surprise plot twists that fill this page turner which Barbara Freethy includes in all her stories. I really enjoy the poignant and bittersweet moments, the plot twists, and the surprises that I have come to love and expect in Barbara Freethy's books and Fatal Betrayal did not disappoint. My favorite part is when Andi and Cooper come full circle and return Hannah to her parents. I love the ending of Andi and Cooper’s love story. I love how all the loose ends get tied up and the revelation of who was behind all the events in the book. I love all the characters and the way Barbara describes the locations in and around Los Angeles. Reading Fatal Betrayal felt like a family reunion, I loved catching up with the other FBI agents in the series. It was really an incredible romantic thriller, and I loved every page. It was an amazing story and I highly recommend it.

Fatal Betrayal is another thrilling addition to the Off the Grid FBI series. Barbara Freethy skillfully combines drama, suspense, and romance together making for a captivating read. The main characters, Andi and Cooper, are likable and interesting with great chemistry. I had no idea how these two were ever going to reconcile their differences. However, Barbara’s adeptness at story and character development doesn’t fail! I enjoy having some of the characters in this story from the previous books in the series. The book kept me riveted and impatient to get to the end so I could find the answers to the mystery. Barbara has created another thrilling, suspenseful story with several surprise twists. I definitely recommend this book and look forward to the next book in the FBI series!
