Description

Early in her life, Josephine Malone learned the hard way that there was only one person she could love and trust: her grandmother, Lydia Malone. Out of necessity, unconsciously and very successfully, Josephine donned a disguise to keep all others at bay. She led a globetrotting lifestyle on the fringes of the fashion and music elite, but she kept herself distant.

While Josephine was trotting the globe, retired boxer Jake Spear was living in the same small town as Lydia. There was nothing disguised about Jake. Including the fact he made a habit of making very bad decisions about who to give his love.

But for Josephine and Jake, there was one person who adored them. One person who knew how to lead them to happiness. And one person who was intent on doing it.

Even if she had to do it as her final wish on this earth.

I had to check out this book because I absolutely love and highly recommend the movie adaptation on Passionflix. The book exceeded my expectations. I thought it would fill in the obvious blanks from the movie but, I had no idea it delved deeper into the small Maine town and it's residents. It offers so much more about Josie, Jake and the children that I consider it an excellent and must read book. I loved seeing how this family navigates the daily grind as well as the unexpected and unpleasant bumps in the road.

The Passionflix movie was great! Hot, sexy, lead actor! But the book... ALAS, it was too wordy! ALAS too many unfinished sentences so it was hard to follow. ALAS too many proper words that just didn’t fit in. And ALAS if I saw that 4 letter word one more time, I would scream!

I do love Kristen Ashley. She’s a fabulous writer and storyteller. However, I truly hate her ongoing promotion of stripping as empowering and valid employment. It is not. Allowing women to believe that the best way to go through life is to sell their bodies, in any manner, is demeaning. Stripping has nothing to do with the beauty of a woman and everything to do with reducing her to a sexual object - removing all traces of identity and personhood from the woman’s perceived value, both personal and societal. I am again extremely disappointed in her for that.

KA must have been channeling her inner Ice Queen when she wrote this book. At first I was surprised, this lead female character seemed the exact opposite of those Rock Chick gals. But, in the end, Josie was about family & love. I should not have doubted KA.

Yes I know... I'm late to these books. But it will not be my last! I loved this story from beginning to end! I laughed, cried, and loved. Josie and Jake were perfect and what his kids brought to the story brought everything together. Perfection!!!

I love books. I love good books. I love ALL Kristen Ashley's books. Even books genres (paranormal/fantasy) I don't like so much, Kristen Ashley gets it right. The Magdalene series is no exception to that rule. This first installment is a gem.
