  • Lackluster and predictable

I rarely leave reviews, but I feel so frustrated with myself for pushing myself to finish this thing, hoping for some redeeming quality, that I feel compelled to write one now. The book is way too long, with endless exposition and repetitious, boring descriptions of things that have nothing to do with the plot. The plot itself is also very lackluster. The "twist" was obvious from the first flashback, but I kept hoping that the author was lulling me into thinking the book was going one way and would pull off some grand trick at the end. Nope. It was exactly as forecasted in that early chapter, with no surprises or deviations. The characters are similarly flat and almost cartoonishly stereotypical. I would definitely not recommend this to fans of thrillers, dark romances, or really anyone who enjoys good storytelling. The only reason I'm giving this two stars instead of one is because the author seemed to have a *slightly* better grasp of grammar, syntax, and punctuation than some self-published authors I've read.

Very dramatic but reading this was like having a conversation with someone who has a lot to say but really conveys nothing. Round and round repeating one overall scenario many times all to get to the same cliffhanger ending. I have never been a let’s just skip to the end reader but I sure wish I had done that rather than wasting my time reading to the end. Pathetic and shame on me for reading most of it. You can be sure I will not read anymore of the books by this author.

What did I just read? So good but, seriously twisted too, and can’t wait to read the rest in the series either lol. Had me, and blew me away.
  • Great Story, Poor Execution

This book has an amazing storyline, but the execution leaves much to be desired. The author tends to ramble with unnecessary details to the point where I found myself skipping pages. The dialog is minimal and leaves a void in your ability to relate and desire to continue reading. However, this is one of the most creative plots I have encountered in a very long time. Everything about this book is so unexpected! The ending is phenomenal and gives you the drive to read the next book. This book could be off the charts with a good editor. The storyline is what is driving me to proceed to the next book in the series with high hopes of better writing.

Couldn’t quit reading it once I started. Excellent writing! Surprise ending. Can’t wait to read all the Authors books.

I was really excited to read another series by this author since I loved the other one I read so much. However, this book was a huge disappointment. There was barely any dialogue at all, the intimate scenes were lacking greatly compared to the other series, and the story was very anticlimactic. There were maybe 2 or 3 exciting scenes/chapters. It seemed like a completely different author 😒

Stopped reading after Chapter 8 when she went in public with her captor/rapist/abuser and she didn’t alert the press taking red carpet photos of the event that she was being held against her will. I might understand if he was insanely psychotic and she feared for her life, or if he had actual leverage over her. But aside from the years of stalking (of which she is completely unaware) he has only shown her garden variety abusive and controlling behavior and threatened her with a contract. And the contract? It’s a blank bar napkin with the word “job contract” and her signature. Is she that stupid that she thinks it’s legally binding? Or did she just decide if she can avoid beatings and brutal sex that she might as well get her debts paid off? A little part of me wants to keep reading just to see where this train wreck ends, but I’m pretty sure I would hate myself after the last page. I would especially hate myself if I actually paid for the second and third books of the trilogy. Two stars for writing that is decent enough to keep me curious against all reason, sense, and judgement.

The first third of the book sucked me in. My mind—unable to keep up with the speed that my eyes wanted to read! Then, the middle of the book slowed way down and I found myself bored of reading blah details and descriptions that seemed unnecessary. But, thankfully, I’m not a quitter! I committed myself to this book, and boy am I glad I did! The last third of the book was filled with exciting and shocking twists, and major “a-ha” moments! I am a fan and will be reading many more of Aleatha’s titles.
  • Loved this whole series.
